Michelle ichelle and Tim Sabourin’s garden was turned into a tropical paradise with blazing tiki torches for the recent, “Cruisin’ in Polynesia” themed La Cañada Junior Women’s Club party. Michelle and Sharon Grey were co-party planners of the event. Island casual was the dress code as guests wore exotic flower inspired clothes enhanced with colorful leis around their necks. I'd like to thank and applaud the news media and fellow resident William Lee for alerting the left-in-the dark public about pending plans for La Cañada Flintridge to accommodate 343 low-income units over the next eight years. After a mind-numbing 30-minute call with City Hall where I heard convoluted legalese, I find this new information and awareness campaign by people outside of the local bureaucracy refreshing and helpful. All residents have a right to know the truth in a timely manner - not just the 1,300 homeowners who live near a potential halfway house.

More than 50 La Cañada Flintridge residents filled the Council Chambers on Tuesday night to oppose locations identified by the city for affordable housing, group homes and homeless shelters. The residents claimed that such housing options would not fit into a community known for scenic views, good schools, and little-to-no crime. Others were worried that the changes would lower their high property values. “It's frightening to think of the neighborhood changing,” said resident Marilee Mitchell.
