Some say she?s almost omnipresent. Wherever community activities and needs exist, longtime La Crescenta resident Mary Gant is there, lending a calming hand to ensure the event?s success. Gant, who has assumed leadership roles in myriad volunteer positions throughout the Foothill communities for the past 45 years, will be honored as La Cañadan of the Year by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada during a luncheon next Wednesday in Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens. The Brighton Collectibles store in Pasadena's Paseo-Colorado shopping complex dedicated a portion of the sales of a special bracelet sold exclusively in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to help people affected with cancer. These cancer patients enhance their health and well being by participating in professional programs of emotional support, education and hope presented by The Wellness Community-Foothills. This was the third consecutive year of Brighton's promotion to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Michael Gross, star of television and the big screen, will serve as emcee of the 14th annual Angel Gala, The Wellness Community-Foothill's major annual fund-raising event. The Angel Gala is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Pasadena. The 2006 Angel Awards will be presented to Libby Evans Wright and The Lance Armstrong Foundation in recognition of their outstanding contributions in support of The Wellness Community's mission. Wright has provided long standing leadership for the Wellness Community both as a member of the board of directors and as a community advocate of services for people diagnosed with cancer.

Prominent La Cañada residents Drs. Robert and Marguerite Marsh are serving as honorary chairs for the 15th Annual Angel Gala benefiting The Wellness Community-Foothills (TWC-F). Their connection to the organization is longstanding— Marguerite Marsh, Ph.D., chaired and helped create the Angel Gala in 1992 to celebrate TWC-F, and to recognize individuals and organizations instrumental to its success. Robert Marsh, M.D., helped to found the Professional Advisory Board to encourage the area's leading oncologists and radiologists to provide referrals to cancer patients and caregivers to programs at TWC-F.

Wellness center to host ?Prom? event The Wellness Community-Foothills will celebrate its 18th anniversary with a special ?Prom? celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15. This special event will include entertainment by comedian and cancer survivor Mack Dryden , art displays by Wellness Community participants, volunteer recognition, food, fun and friendship. For the potluck, guests with last names ending in A-L are asked to bring a side dish; M-Z, a main dish.

Ten Years Ago ? The Flintridge Inn and Vons Companies, Inc. partnered to present "An Evening of Fine Wine & Dining" in support of Wellness Community-Foothills. Twenty Years Ago ? LCF began an intensified program to educate residents and merchants on the proposed "new look" of the Foothill Boulevard commercial areas, including the Boulevard Design study. Thirty Years Ago ? Twenty years of memories were recalled when members of the LCF Women's Club attended a gala 20th Anniversary Ball at the Huntington-Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena.
