In just five days people will be going to the polls to elect a new president of the United States. We have been bombarded by TV and radio commercials proclaiming the worthiness of the candidates. Political spin masters are dividing the nation in colors of red and blue. Worries about the possibility of more “hanging chads” or malfunctioning electronic voting machines might cause problems have been discussed over and over. Today’s voting process seems calm in comparison to what I discovered when doing some genealogy research about my sixth great-grandfather, John Rucker from Orange County, Va. My source was: Journals of the House of Burgesses of Virginia 1742-1747.
