Penelope’s is closed so I sit in Starbucks, leafing through a book, “The Wall, Images and Offerings from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.” I don’t know why I’m compelled do this. It brings nothing but insurmountable grief. Time does not dissipate my anger over war and its wake of havoc. Such moments are not steeped in sentimentality. I think of the words of T.S. Eliot: “We die with the dying; they depart and we go with them ” My destiny is sealed and I shall never know peace.
