LCHS class of 2000 alumnus and former Spartans? basketball player Nick Racklin has just accepted the position of head assistant basketball coach at Cal State Monterey Bay. For the past two years, Racklin has been the videographer and intern assistant coach for the men?s basketball team at University of California, Irvine. During that time, he earned his masters degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University, Irvine. While attending UC Davis, Racklin coached the men?

The Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation will host a Local History Day for the Crescenta/Cañada Valley, Sunday, Sept. 24, from 1 until 4 p.m. at Lanterman House, 4420 Encinas Drive, La Cañada. Videographer John Newcombe will premiere his video history, The Crescenta/Cañada Valley Then and Now. Mike Lawler, Robert Newcombe and Yana Ungerman-Marshall will give illustrated talks on the creation of their photographic histories of La Crescenta and La Cañada for Arcadia Publishing.

The San Marino Chapter of the National Charity League held its 45th Annual Debutante Ball in the Ballroom of the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, in Beverly Hills on Dec. 22, 2005. One La Canada girl, Laura Elizabeth Dwyer, was honored with the class of 2005 Ticktockers who have volunteered six years and 17,246 hours of community service. The 23 young women have completed their hours of volunteer work at 19 philanthropies in San Marino and neighboring communities. Some of the agencies served include Almansor Center, Armory Center for the Arts, LAC/USC Medical Center, Pasadena Humane Society, Villa Esperanza, San Marino and South Pasadena public libraries, Pasadena Senior Center, Huntington Memorial Hospital, Ability First and Kidspace Museum.

The U.S. Parachute Association (USPA) in conjunction with Perris Valley Skydiving (PVS) have announced that the 2004 National Skydiving Championships will be held in Perris, Calif., from Sept. 30-Oct. 17. This 47th annual competition will include 22 skydiving events in all six disciplines in the largest skydiving competition in history. More than 1,000 skydivers will vie for the Gold during intense days of nonstop jumping with multiple events conducted concurrently at this state-of-the art skydiving and sport aviation center.
