Kourtney M. Hadley and Scott R. Arroyo have announced their engagement. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Melody Hadley and the late Paul Hadley of La Cañada Flintridge. The future bridegroom is the son of Jill Arroyo and Samuel Arroyo of Valley Village. The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of La Cañada High School and a 2008 graduate of The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where she earned her degree in interior design. She currently works as a wedding consultant in Burbank.

A 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday on the Angeles Crest Highway, authorities said. Dan Cretu, 38, of Valley Village lost control of his 2012 Aprilia motorcycle about four miles north of the 210 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Cretu was flung off his motorcycle and landed on a slope by the side of the road. He was airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities. The La Canada High girls' 7-8 soccer team played a tremendous game last week, shutting out Northview Middle School of Monrovia at home, 9-0. Goals were scored by Lisa Lim, Lauren Kambe, Theresa Wulke, Thalea Gochez, Paige Parker, Rachel Ragusa, Kate Hansen and Jasmine Moh. "The passing was incredible and the girls really came alive today," said Coach David Parker. The girls are 3-1-1 so far this season with five more games to play. "This is one of the best teams we have ever assembled at LCHS 7/8," said Coach Jim Kambe who is in his third year with the team.

Host La Cañada wiped out the Flintridge Prep boys' varsity tennis team, 16-2, in a nonleague match on March 16 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Falling to 1-5 overall, the Rebels traveled to Pasadena Poly for a league match on Tuesday. Prep also hosted Village Christian in a nonleague contest yesterday (Wednesday). Results were not available for either match at press time. The Spartans swept in doubles and Justin Kim won all three matches in singles play.

Sun Valley's Village Christian Elementary school hosted its annual Grandparents' Day and Parent Teacher Fellowship Christmas breakfast this month. These special events celebrated the holiday spirit by bringing families together on campus. During Grandparents' Day, students performed songs on stage and did special projects with their grandparents, while at the Christmas breakfast, families were treated to a morning meal as well as a tree-lighting and “snow.”

Nominations are being sought for the fifth annual Women in Business Awards to be held Sept. 1. Noel Coward's comedy "Hay Fever" opens this week in the Glendale Community College Auditorium Mainstage Theatre. Kim Mowrey is the guest director of the Theatre Arts Department production. Performances are at 8 p.m. on April 27, 28, 29, May 4, 6, 12 and 13. The Sunday matinees are May 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. "Hay Fever" is a comedy of bad manners as four guests arrive at the English country home of the theatrical Bliss family. The cast includes Jordan Grout of Los Angeles as David Bliss and Alex Wooten of Glendale as Judith Bliss.

"Something's Missing," a new play written by Ken Gray, theatre arts professor emeritus and directed by guest artist Lani Harris, opens today, Thursday, April 20, in the Glendale Community College Auditorium Studio Theatre. The Theatre Arts Department production will be performed at 8 p.m. on April 20, 21 and 22, May 5, 11, 18, 19 and 20. Matinees are at 2 p.m. on April 23, 29 and 30, May 6 and 13. The story involves an abducted boy who returns as a man. Something is missing from his life and the lives of his family members.

In its Prep League opener last Friday, the Flintridge Prep boys' varsity basketball team dropped host Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 52-46. The Rebels improved to 4-10 overall and to 1-0 in league. They hosted Chadwick School in league play on Tuesday, but no results were available at press time. Prep will travel to Pasadena Poly tomorrow (Friday) for a 6:30 p.m. league contest, will visit Campbell Hall on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. league game and take the bus to Chadwick School next Thursday for a league tussle at 6 p.m. Prep was led by Andrew Beck who pumped in 23 points.
