Eighth graders from La Cañada High School 7/8 got a glimpse of their possible future on Friday during the school?s annual Career Day. The day is organized and sponsored by Girl Scout Troops 584-1 and 363-1. For about two months prior to the event the girls contact speakers and match eighth graders with their chosen career professionals. On the day of the event, troop members, along with leaders Beth Gordon and Christy Frandsen and the school?s eighth grade counselor Shannon Brascia, make certain each speaker has a volunteer guide and that students are checked into their pre-selected career classroom.

The La Cañada Flintridge City Council held final public hearings Monday on an amendment to the adopted housing element in its General Plan and the rezoning of several areas within the city limits to allow for multifamily housing and mixed-use development. Combined, the plans will allow for the possible construction of 343 affordable housing units, as required by state law. Bill Trimble, a consultant with the urban planning firm Veronica Tam and Associates, gave a presentation on how the county's housing needs were determined.
