If anything can be said about La Cañada High School's graduating class of 2013, it's that they are utterly unafraid to let their light shine and, in doing so, make the world a brighter place. Graduates were a sight to behold Thursday evening as they streamed enthusiastically onto the field of Spartan Stadium. The tops of their maroon and gold mortar boards were decorated with signs, symbols and pictures hinting at next steps - logos of colleges near and abroad (Vassar, Emory, Brigham Young, UCLA and UC Davis to name a few)

National Letter of Intent day, the day in which athletes sign letters of intent to honor the scholarships offered by the college of their choice, was yesterday and it was a good day for five Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy athletes who signed their letters of intent to their colleges of choice. It’s not a usual event for Sacred Heart to host a little event for National Letter of Intent, but as Sacred Heart Athletic Director Stephanie Contreras said: “We have so many girls going to colleges next year for sports that we decided it was a good idea to hold a signing day.” Softball pitcher Jessica Ferri made a commitment to Harvard University, who received her acceptance last November.

Kendall Walbrecht and Micaela Anderson made the transition to La Cañada High girls' varsity volleyball early by becoming key contributors for Spartans Coach Brock Turner as freshmen. The duo, which arguably gives the Spartans the best outside hitter combination in the area, had their college plans already set before their senior seasons began. The 6-foot-2 Walbrecht verbally committed to UC Davis in September of 2011 and Anderson, who stands at 6-1, decided on Rutgers University on May 11. "Good for them," Turner said.
