This weekend the malls will most likely be quieter because every teenage girl will be sitting in a darken theater sighing, giggling and cheering as they watch a love story that they have read, and dreamt, about come to life on the screen. Theaters like United Artists in La Cañada are gearing up for a very busy weekend with the release on Friday of the movie “Twilight,” the phenomenon that can no longer be contained between the pages of a book. Twilight is the first of the series of movies based on the best selling books by Catherine Hardwicke.

If you listen closely this weekend, you may hear the sounds of deep sighing and soft giggling across the Crescenta Valley. Your teenage daughter, and perhaps your wife, may seem as if they are walking in a cloud. My advice to all husbands and boyfriends: don?t panic and, whatever you do, if you find them in a group whispering and giggling, leave them alone! They are in the Twilight zone. Not of Rod Serling?s making, but of Stephanie Meyers, the author of the ?Twilight? vampire book series.

Summer Twilight Thursdays at Descanso Gardens will find visitors sharing picnics with family, wine tasting with friends, power walks, quiet strolls and train and tram rides through the woods. On these special evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. each Thursdays in July and August, visitors will sip tea as shadows fall across the Japanese Garden, visit the Boddy House Art Gallery in the cool of the day and watch the summer sun sink low behind the trees at Descanso Gardens. All this, plus children's activities and botanical treasure hunts, lively Hort-How-To programs with experts from the Gardens' horticultural staff, and special snacks at the Gift Shop, are part of Descanso's summer Twilight Thursday evenings during July and August.

Hundreds of Hot Classics Expected to Fill NHRA Museum Lot in Pomona from 4-8 p.m. Dec. 7.The final Twilight Cruise Night of 2005 on Wed., Dec. 7 is shaping up to be the premier event of the season at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, Fairplex Gate 1, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., in Pomona. Those attending can help fill a truck with donated toys for the needy kids of Pomona, and one very special toy will be reserved for Wally Parks as Cal Rods car club presents the NHRA founder with a perfect recreation of his 1929 Ford Roadster.

George T. Zografos died March 19, 2007, of a sudden heart attack while on a twilight walk with his wife, Valerie. He had been a resident of La Cañada Flintridge since 1980. He is survived by his nieces Ana Forbes, Theodora Gerontinos and Alexandra Gerontinos. He was preceded in death by sisters Despina (1954) and Olympia (1993). George was born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Penn. He moved to California in 1944 and graduated from Fremont High School and UCLA. During the Korean War he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

The tradition of Lent, with its customary prayer, fasting and almsgiving, leading up to Easter, is observed by many Christian denominations. Over the years, individual church practices during Lent have evolved, and today some churches do not specifically celebrate a Lenten season. Such is the case with my own church, where Easter is nevertheless an important occasion of promise and fulfillment, a message about life rather than death. Jesus was surrounded by opposition. Established society of the time, envious of his popularity, believed they could kill him; but he knew that his real life was in God and could not be destroyed.
