Parcel tax was on the agenda at the La Cañada Unified School District meeting on Tuesday. Charles Heath, vice president and senior consultant for Tramutola, shared a PowerPoint presentation on what his company would do to help the district present a parcel tax to the public. A parcel tax is a qualified special tax that requires a two-thirds approval in a scheduled election. The board has brought the subject up on several occasions, especially with the education budget crunch all districts are now facing.

Tuesday’s La Cañada Unified School District board meeting was not as long as usual but covered the same ground as many of their meetings have in the past, with the discussion of a parcel tax. For several meetings the board has discussed, reviewed and debated the relevance of presenting La Cañada voters with a parcel tax on a future ballot. All have agreed that it is needed for the benefit of the future of educating the city’s students but how to approach the subject with the voters has always been a sensitive and much-debated issue.
