Just in time for Father?s Day, father and daughter novelists Dan and Jane Pollock will sign their just released books at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Once Upon A Time bookstore, 2207 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. Dan?s fifth novel, ?The Running Boy? is a fast-paced crime thriller set in Los Angeles. The story uses flashbacks to trigger events in Moscow and Warsaw and it all takes place within a single day. Daughter Jane?s first book, ?Titus and Otis and the Arctic Adventure,? is a young adult book born from a winter trip to the Midwest.

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity golf team defeated host Pasadena La Salle, 217-233, at Eaton Canyon Golf Course on March 15. The Rebels upped their overall mark to 7-4 and their Prep League record to 3-1. Prep played league matches against Pasadena Poly at Brookside on Tuesday and Calabasas Viewpoint at the Encino Golf Course yesterday (Wednesday), but results were not available at press time. Prep will play Hillcrest Christian at the Altadena Golf Course today (Thursday)

Able to place only two player among the five lowest scores, the Flintridge Prep varsity golf team fell to Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson, 229-249, in a nonleague match at the De Bell Golf Course on March 29. The Rebels dropped to 9-7 overall and remained 4-3 in Prep League. In three upcoming league matches, they will host Pasadena La Salle at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club next Tuesday at 3 p.m., play Bellermine-Jefferson again at the Altadena Gold Course next Wednesday and travel to Calabasas Viewpoint for a league match next Thursday.

The regular Prep League season came to an end in a positive way for the Flintridge Prep varsity golf team. The Rebels disposed of Los Angeles Milken Community, 207-211, last Thursday at the Woodley Lakes Course and bested the L.A. school, 209-222, on May 2 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The Rebels improved to 14-8 overall and finished 8-4 in league. Last Thursday, Hasan Doxey shot the third lowest score, a two-over-par 38, and teammate Shane Pattummadith was right behind in fourth place with a 40. In the earlier match, Pattummadith finished with the second lowest score, a two-over-par 36, to lead Prep.

In an unusual bit of scheduling, the Flintridge Prep varsity golf team won both a Prep League and a nonleague match at the Altadena Golf Course last Thursday. Playing both Pasadena Maranatha and Hillcrest Christian, the Rebels barely defeated Maranatha (215-218) for a nonleague victory and topped Hillcrest, which shot a team 255, for a league win. The Rebels, who improved to 9-6 overall and to 4-3 in league, hosted Los Angeles Cathedral in a league match at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club on Tuesday and played Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson at the Debell Golf Course yesterday (Wednesday)

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity golf team scored a nonleague 217-227 victory over visiting Santa Clarita Christian last Thursday at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The Rebels, who improved to 12-8 overall and to 6-4 in league, participated in the league preliminaries on Tuesday at Pasadena's Brookside Golf Course, but results were not available at press time. The Rebels will compete in the league finals today (Thursday) at Brookside at 1 p.m., will host Los Angeles Milken next Tuesday at 3 p.m. and will travel to Balboa Park in Encino to play the same team next Thursday at 3:15 p.m. in league contests.

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity golf team improved to 10-8 overall with a 209-238 nonleague win over Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson at the Altadena Golf Course on April 12. The Rebels, who remain 4-4 in Prep League, hosted Pasadena Poly at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. Prep will host Santa Clarita Christian in a league match today (Thursday) at the LCFCC at 3 p.m. The Rebels will participate in the league preliminaries next Tuesday and the league finals next Thursday, both at Pasadena's Brookside Golf Course at 1 p.m. Hasan Doxey led the Rebels with a two-over-par 38. Drew Titus followed in third place with a 41, Shane Pattummadith in fourth with a 42 and Ryan Parker in fifth with a 43. Visiting Pasadena La Salle stopped the Rebels, 207-231, in a league match on April 11 at the LCFCC.

On Monday afternoon parents, teachers, and students teed off at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club in a golf tournament sponsored by the Law Offices of Vargas and Vargas, and Doug Vargas, 1911, to raise money for the John Plumb Endowment Fund for Faculty Growth and Development at Flintridge Prep. The tournament, which has gone through several incarnations over the years, has been taking place since the early '50s Plumb was variously teacher, coach and director of Alumni Relations and Development from 1972 to 1990.

Landon Goodwell's three first half touchdowns proved to be more than enough for the Rio Hondo Prep Kares as they defeated the struggling Flintridge Prep Rebels, 19-7, last Saturday night at La Canada High. The loss dropped the defending CIF Division XIII champs' overall record to 1-5 and their Prep League mark to 0-2. The Rebels will travel to Pasadena Poly on Saturday for a 2 p.m. league contest. Goodwell's combination of size and speed bowled over the Rebels' defense for 192 yards on 25 carries.

Elvis may have left the building, but he did find his way to the gazebo at La Cañada?s Memorial Park last Sunday evening. Steve Roth , the man who created the Elvis magic that night was a sensational hit as he not only sang the songs but also gave the sizable crowd an insight into the ?King?s? life through informative stories. Roth was a big hit with several children in the audience when he sang ?Teddy Bear? and gave out small, plush bears. And, some of the ladies were swooning when he dispensed his signature scarves and sang just to them!
