Pasadena Judge Leslie E. Brown on Tuesday handed down a 16-year sentence to 18-year-old David Melendez, who shot LCHS senior Thomas Johnson-Blasucci in the jaw during a scuffle at a May 2003 post-prom party in La Cañada Flintridge. The victim of the May 2003 post-prom shooting at a home in La Cañada Flintridge has filed a civil suit seeking compensation from the home's owner, according to court documents. Thomas Blasucci-Johnson was shot once in the jaw during an altercation between rival high school students in the backyard of a home at 5146 Green Crest Road. The shooter, 18-year-old David Melendez of South Pasadena, was sentenced last week to 16 years in prison. A civil complaint filed Nov. 17 alleges that the owner of the home where the party was held was "negligent in maintaining his property and created a hotbed of youth violence and drunkenness and created an extremely dangerous situation" for Blasucci-Johnson.
