The Theodore Payne Foundation's third annual garden tour will take place April 1 and 2 this year, showcasing 31 private and public gardens throughout the Los Angeles Basin. One of those gardens belongs to Eric and Elisa Callow of La Cañada Flintridge, and they are pleased to be a part of the tour for the second year in a row. "It's fun," Elisa Callow said. "Garden people in general are people who enjoy themselves." She adds that the people who attend are often very knowledgeable, so there is a lot of tip-swapping and advice-giving.

Matt Whitham, 18, a senior at La Cañada High School, is what many who know him consider a “great kid” with a “great personality” and a “great attitude.” Whitham is an Eagle Scout, co-founder of the La Cañada High School engineering club, and hopes to someday become an architect. Whitham was nominated to be an All-Star by one of his scoutmasters at Troop No. 507, Ron Connelly.

The garden outside Eric and Elisa Callow?s Lloyd Wright home is awash in colors befitting the beginning brush strokes of a Monet landscape. Bright orange, green, red and purple dapple the back yard of the 2/3 acre lot along La Cañada?s Journey?s End Drive, which the couple has turned into a beautiful yet quiet haven of peace and solitude. But the family isn?t keeping its lovingly cared for gardens to itself. On April 12 and 13, the Callows? native plant garden will be one of 38 Los Angeles area home gardens featured in the 5th annual Theodore Payne Foundation Native Plant Garden Tour.

Letters to the Editor Caltrans is creating hazards for drivers I am writing this letter to comment on two Caltrans-inflicted traffic hazards that now exist in our area, the first being the awful, garish ‘traffic information’ sign on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway (just past Berkshire) that is rarely correct and unnecessary. Because of its brightness, size and location, it causes many drivers to become distracted and slow down abruptly, attempting to view it. Certainly a recipe for disaster!
