Competitors participated in a Q&A portion, a dance number, talent competition and a swimsuit competition, according to ASB adviser Bill Lively. “I told them there have to be tops, and no Speedos,” Lively said in an earlier interview. Kids reap rewards of Club 365 Children at all three La Cañada elementary schools reaped the rewards of Club 365 by seeing and learning about exotic rainforest animals. Club 365 is the contest sponsored by the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation to raise funds for the schools. Thanks to tremendous community support, this year’s Club 365 raised more than $105,000 for the LCFEF. The Club 365 program is only in its second year. The idea is simple: If a family donates $365 to the Educational Foundation from July 1, 2007, to May 23, 2008, their elementary age children automatically became members of Club 365. The grade level at each elementary school with the highest participation wins the contest at their school.

With swimsuit season upon them, dozens of people lined up at the West Coast Boot Camp in La Cañada Flintridge, weighing whether to participate in the center's third weight loss challenge. "I am not an adventurous person at all," Toluca Lake resident Mindi Dyson admitted Saturday. "I am sweating just being here." Dyson was inspired to participate after watching a friend lose weight by a similar method. "I am not looking to run marathons, but just so I can walk up a hill and not be out of breath and feel better in my clothes," Dyson said, who would like to ultimately lose 60 pounds.

I received this as an e-mail from a friend and I think it is worth sharing with all of you. A ?young? person asked the question ?How do you feel about being old?? She answered, ?Old age, I decided, is a gift. ?I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body. I sometime despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging rear end. And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my mother!

A pair of snowy egrets stands near the edge of the inland sea, yellow feet hidden in the mud. While one keeps his eyes on a kid whizzing past on a jet ski, the other hunts for a fish or two that might make a suitable brunch. On the far end of this body of water, at the quietest spot and with his back brushing against the leaves of an aging camellia bush, a fisherman sits on an ivy-covered boulder. In preparation for the enjoyment of his hobby, he’s collecting some of the worms that are found there in abundance.
