La Cañada Flintridge resident Royal Oakes has again been named a Super Lawyer by the publisher of Law & Politics. This selection process identifies qualified candidates by means of a multi-step evaluation process that encorporates peer recognition and professional achievement: 60,000 ballots are mailed to attorneys in the state and their responses are ranked using a 12-level process. Candidates are further reviewed by a panel of peers in their primary area of practice. Oakes is a partner at the downtown law firm of Barger & Wolen and was selected for his expertise in the area of business litigation.

Brette Simon , a 1988 graduate of La Cañada High School and a partner at the law firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP , was recently recognized for the third straight year by Los Angeles Magazine in its February issue as a Super Lawyer. The 35-year-old Simon was voted a Super Lawyer in the field of mergers and acquisitions, and holds the distinction of being the youngest person elected in that category. As a member of Sheppard Mullin's Corporate Practice Group, Simon represents clients in public and private mergers, tender offers, consent solicitations, leveraged recapitalizations, stock and asset purchase and sale transactions and securities offerings.

For the third year in a row, Mark L. Russakow, a resident of La Cañada and partner in the law firm of Russakow, Ryan & Johnson, has been named a Southern California "Super Lawyer Rising Star" by Los Angeles Magazine in the area of business litigation. Russakow represents both plaintiffs and defendants in the areas of employment, personal injury and business litigation. He has achieved multimillion-dollar settlements for his plaintiff clients, as well as successful settlements while representing management and insurance companies.

Bright, his wife Maureen J. Bright, and Gregory C. Brown (mayor pro tem of La Cañada Flintridge) were each recognized as being among the top 5% of lawyers in Southern California. "Super Lawyers" is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
