Last Saturday was my absolute dream day after so many days of triple digit days. It was all misty when I awoke and I made the decision to stay in my pajamas and cozy slippers. I settled in with my dog Lola and a good book. I also managed to finish a knitting project that I had begun at least a year ago. As the day progressed the mist turned into raindrops that made me even happier. It was a fabulous day! Now, here we are again in 90 degree-plus weather and I’m back wearing light cotton clothes and sandals.

The year's first LCF Tournament of Roses Association Happy Hour held at the home of Elysa and Steve Del Guercio attracted some 80 floaters, and judging from the activity at the appetizer table and the full-sized "saloon" bar, they were indeed a happy group. Among those sampling the goodies were Sherrill & Jim Carbonetti, Claire Slaughter, Doris Horwith, Pat Anderson, Malak Peterman, Lois & Ken Kirkpatrick, Muriel Stine, Sarah & Mayfield Marshall, Sharlyn French, Eremita & Larry Andreason, Ann & Bob Neilson, Diane & John Landrum, Vera & Garth Gragg, Joy & Joe Wilson, Dorothy & Bob Lyans, Joyce & Bob Covey, Barbara & Jack Dawson, Joel & Drew Peterson, Harriet & John Hammons, Gayle & Kurt Friedmann, Florence Cox, Lee Young and Lou diVita.

Whew! I was a busy bunny this past weekend. All five of my own grandchildren, plus two more who have adopted me as their “YaYa,” were here for the grand Easter Sunday egg hunt in my backyard. It is amazing how much energy seven little people between the ages of 5 and 12 can expend. We had a fabulous time and I'm quite sure we may have missed a couple of eggs that we might not find until July or so. Hope everyone had a happy holiday week. -- I do have a couple of events to tell you about - you know our community members are quite involved in so many different projects, benefits and other sundry activities.

It's hard to believe, but the first day of spring, March 20, is nearly here. We have already sprung an hour ahead and we are now thankfully into daylight saving time. I love having the sun shine later into the evening. An afternoon performance of Giuseppe Verdi's opera, “Simon Boccanegra,” conducted by James Conlon, with the title role sung by Placido Domingo, was an exciting beginning to the 14th annual Placido Domingo Awards Dinner that was held in the Eva and Marc Stern Grand Hall of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
