Former Dodgers President Dennis Mannion has listed his estate in La Canada Flintridge for sale at $3.3 million. Set on two acres, the Spanish-style house offers views of Pasadena, Glendale and Los Angeles. The 5,019-square-foot main house, built in 1960 and designed for entertaining, features walls of glass, an oversized living room, a family room, an office, four bedrooms and four bathrooms. A two-room studio of 781 square feet includes a three-quarter bathroom. Among outdoor amenities are a swimming pool, spa and a barbecue area with a fireplace.

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation welcomed 23 new directors to the board at an orientation reception held July 12 at the home of Andy and Liz Dick . The enthusiastic group of new directors have committed to a three-year term to serve the public schools of La Cañada Flintridge. LCFEF President Graham Stumpf welcomed the new board members, saying, "Thank you so much for stepping up and volunteering your time and effort to help the La Cañada Unified School District deliver an outstanding education to our kids.

The Parent Education Program at La Cañada Presbyterian Church presents its 19th annual Car Rally Extravaganza at 5 p.m. on March 10. The "I Love the 80s" community event begins with a scavenger hunt through town and will continue with more fun at the La Cañada Thursday Club. Participants will feast on food from Pie 'n Burger, dance the night away to disco music and check out the awesome deals at the fabulous silent and live auctions. Tickets are just $37.50 per person and can be purchased at the Parent Education Office by calling 790-6758, ext 205. Tickets will not be sold the night of the event.

Longtime resident John R. "Jack" Balmer peacefully passed away at the age of 80 years and 20 days on Saturday, March 20, 2004, with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 29, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the youngest son of James G. Balmer and Grace C. Balmer. He lived a full life of adventure, travel, love and laughter. Jack was a man of many talents and convictions. He attended Friendship Elemen-tary and Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., then went on to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
