The La Cañada Newcomers Club La Cañada Newcomers Club , open to new area residents as well as longtime La Cañadans who would like to meet new neighbors and make new friends, will host a Fall Mixer potluck dinner party at the home of Vacit and Sheila Arat on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. Guests bring a food item and beverage to share. Float group plans Hamburger Night LCF Tournament of Roses Assn. will hold its annual Hamburger Night at 6 p.m. Friday in the backyard of Sarah and Mayfield Marshall, 4918 Vineta Ave. Community members 18 and older can enjoy a hamburger (or cheeseburger) with all the sides for $8. Just bring an appetizer to share, and theassociation furnishes the hamburgers, cheese, potato salad, baked beans, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, onions, pickles, etc. Beverages will be available for purchase at a nominal cost.

?Love Boat? cruises for Symphony Excitement surrounds the Glendale Symphony Orchestra as it approaches its 84th consecutive year. To celebrate and raise funds for future concerts and scholarships the GSO Association now looks forward to another highly successful Annual Prelude Gala at Oakmont Country Club, this Friday, starting at 6 p.m. The theme is ?Love Boat.? A red carpet gangway entrance into the Oakmont amid serpentine streamers, photographer cameras and the Love Boat music will lead to a Welcome Aboard greeting from the ship?

Last Thursday, I dashed back to La Cañada to attend a tea at the La Cañada Thursday Club. That morning, I had dropped off six dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies for the tea. Despite a busy work schedule, I wanted to reconnect with the ladies. In case you are a newcomer, or have been living under a rock, the La Cañada Thursday Club is a women?s social club, founded in October 1912 by Elizabeth Frances Knight. When I was president of the Thursday Club, we did a lot of charity, including substantial scholarship awards, but the outside world did not intrude into the meetings.
