The weather outside really was frightful this week as a series of winter storms blew through La Cañada. The first round hit on Monday with rain and cold temperatures with a lull on Tuesday, and then hit again on Wednesday with a prediction of warmer temperatures for the weekend. La Canada looked like a real winter wonderland with snow falling on the foothills of the San Gabriels and residents bundled up for the cold temperatures. “This is definitely sweet,” said Bill Patzert, Jet Propulsion Laboratory climatologist.

We are blessed. On top of being on a beautiful plot of land and having Descanso Gardens within its limits, La Cañada is 10 miles to downtown, 40 miles to the ocean and 90 miles to the mountains. For a few of us, that last one is the best prospect. Bear Mountain, Snow Valley, Snow Summit, Mt. Baldy and Waterman are all well within driving distance. Mammoth is not much farther and you can get to Lake Tahoe in less than eight hours. There?s treasure everywhere. I have a trip planned for Bear Mountain this week.
