We have all seen the commercials. "More bang for your buck!" And that's the golden truth for this western themed roller coaster, Silver Bullet, at Knott's Berry Farm. Silver Bullt is a suspended roller coaster that zooms guests through six inversions to a height of 146 feet above the ground. Two minutes and 9 seconds is all it takes to cover 3,125 feet of unbelievably smooth track, even through the loops and spirals that make you feel like you are flying free like a bullet. Being called Silver Bullet, one would assume that the track or cars would be silver.

When Jake Armstrong grabbed his reporter's notebook and a Valley Sun camera to cover a fatal, single car accident on Angeles Crest Highway last February, he didn't think it would be any different than any other task. One of many times Armstrong took photos of crashes on the crest, this was just a routine assignment. Routine until the picture won second place in the spot news category of the California Newspaper Publisher's Association's Better Newspaper Contest. The picture, which ran in the February 26, 2004 issue of the La Cañada Valley Sun, competed against others from weekly newspapers the size of the Valley Sun. "I usually tell the stories with writing, but I try to do it with photos, too. Sometimes it works.

LA CRESCENTA - While the 16-team Crescenta Valley High boys' volleyball tournament featured only three local varsity squads in St. Francis, Crescenta Valley and La Cañada, the area wasn't without its strong efforts, led by the Golden Knights. St. Francis took advantage of the mini-break from Mission League play to go 3-0 Saturday afternoon and capture the silver division crown after a come-from-behind, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12 victory over West Covina at Crescenta Valley. “You know you work hard all year and it's nice to get a win,” said St. Francis Coach Mark Frazee, who was missing two starters and three total players because of SAT testing.

Recently I received a call from Terese Miller, the outdoor program director for the Mount Wilson Vista Girl Scout Council. “Dr. Joe,” she said, “Would you do security for the upcoming Girl Scout Jamboree at Glen Helen Park?” I’ve always been an experience junkie, so jumping off the abyss seemed natural to me. Rarely have I taken that leap simply to satiate the unquenchable pursuit of adrenaline. Instead, I am driven by novelty, which is much increased by the simple pursuit of its gratification.

But Norrin Radd (the Surfer's real name) really makes the movie "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" great. The movie begins just before the fifth attempt at a wedding between Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and the Invisible Woman, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba). The public and media, as well as random disasters, have stopped it so many times before that Sue wonders if she will ever get married.
