The icons depicted in the lost murals of LCHS stood in the face of the limited minds of those who seek 'uniformity,' like Principal Leinen-ger and Superintendent Sue Leabo. It is no surprise that such limited thinkers would opt for pale yellow paint over two decades of history and art. I am certain Mr. Leinenger wouldn't overlook the removal of past CIF championship banners or the disposal of trophies from yesteryear. Yet, it didn't cross his mind to protect the work of his school's artists.

Just this past Sunday afternoon when it was somewhat sunny here in town, I drove down to Santa Monica to visit the specialty book store Hennessey + Ingalls. By the time I got there, the beach city was fogged. Just in case you are an art geek like me, this bookstore is the place to go. Here is a store dedicated to books on art, architecture, photography, interior design and other art forms.

PASADENA — After taking an early lead, the La Cañada High boys' water polo team maintained its distance to defeat Santa Monica, 12-7, in the first-round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs at Pasadena City College Wednesday. The win moves the Spartans on to the next round, but they know there is going to have to be some improvement if they are to achieve their goal of winning a Division III title this year. "I think the kids were a little nervous with this being the first game of CIF and having so many expectations on themselves," La Cañada Coach Steve Neville said.

Television and talk radio show personality June Cain Miller has a new book out, and she’s coming to La Cañada’s Flintridge Bookstore at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 11 to share her unique insights and sign copies of her book. Billed as “controversial and bold,” Miller’s “The Chipping Away of America” is a thoughtful compilation of the author’s musings and facts and figures to support them. Much of the work began as notes she took while watching television, listening to the radio or reading as she passed time with her husband, Bob Henry, who has spent much of the past three years in the hospital.
