For the first time in Crescenta Valley Little League history, the 11-year-old Little League All-Stars have advanced to the Division 3 Final. With three La Cañada Flintridge players on board, the All-Stars have won both the District 16 Tournament and the Section 2 final to advance swiftly to Division 3 which will begin this Saturday in Santa Fe Springs at 11a.m. where the team will play the Section 5 winner. CV swept the district with a combined three-game score of 68-0, crushing Tujunga, Glendale and Burbank.

The La Cañada girls' junior varsity volleyball team finished in first place out of 48 teams who participated in the Gabrielino Volleyball Tournament held in San Gabriel last Saturday. After finishing first in pool play, the Spartans defeated Gladstone (Covina) and Burbank to reach the semi-finals, where they faced a tough Santa Fe Springs St. Paul squad. La Cañada had already beaten St. Paul in a difficult three-game match during pool play, and lost the first semi-final game, 25-20.

All six Spartan teams made it to the playoff rounds this winter season. Congratulations and good luck to all our La Cañada area high schools! Boys' basketball will play against Almont League at-large team Alhambra at the Spartan Stadium tomorrow, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. A victory matches the Spartans (9-1) against the winner of Workman versus Crossroads on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Girls' basketball faces the Miramonte League's No. 2 team Wilson on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at La Cañada.

Santa Fe Springs St. Paul stopped the Flintridge Prep girls' varsity basketball team's win streak at four games with a 65-45 victory last Saturday to take the San Marino Tournament. The Rebels, who fell to 4-1, will participate in the Pasadena Poly Tournament today (Thursday) with a 6 p.m. game against Pasadena La Salle. Earlier, Flintridge Prep defeated host San Marino, 41-29, in San Marino Tournament pool play last Friday to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Rebels kept the Titans to just six points in the first half to lead 20-6 at halftime.

The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy's varsity softball opened the 2005 season with a bang by winning both games of a nonleague doubleheader against host Sierra Madre Alverno last Saturday. The Tologs, who upped their record to 2-0, took the first contest, 5-2, and came back to no-hit the Jaguars, 4-1, in the nightcap. Sacred Heart will travel to Little Lake Park today (Thursday) for a 3:15 p.m. nonleague game against Santa Fe Springs St. Paul and will face Glendale there in a nonleague contest at 3:40 p.m. next Tuesday.

LA CAÑADA — The Lady Spartans were hoping to close the season last Thursday without a loss, but instead walked off in defeat after visiting Monrovia won 1-0 in both teams' last league game. The Spartans created multiple chances to score during their mostly offensive play, but were unable to connect with the goal. "We definitely dominated," said Head Coach Louis Bilowitz. "But I'd rather it [the loss] happen now than in the playoffs." During a scoreless first half, La Cañada kept control over the ball with tight passing and few turnovers — but not many shots on goal.

The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy varsity softball team's record fell below .500 with the lost of both games of a doubleheader to host Montebello Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary last Saturday. The Tologs lost the opener, 7-3, and were edged in the nightcap, 10-9, to fall to 3-4 overall. Sacred Heart will travel to Los Angeles Valley College today (Thursday) for a 3:45 p.m. league contest, will visit Arcadia tomorrow (Friday) for a nonleague tussle at 6:30 p.m. and will host West Hills Chaminade at the Glendale Sports Complex next Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. In the first game of the doubleheader, in which a combined 10 errors were committed by both teams, Sacred Heart had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy varsity softball team won two games last Saturday while participating in the Alverno Tournament. The 5-1 Tologs defeated San Gabriel Mission, 20-1, in the first round of play and blanked Eagle Rock, 6-0, in the second round. Sacred Heart played Glendale in a nonleague game on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The Tologs will travel to the Glendale Sports Complex to play Montebello Cantwell Sacred Heart tomorrow (Friday)

The CCY Dragon Swim Team delivered another stellar performance at the 2004 Southern California Junior Olympic Long Course Swimming Championships, held Aug. 4 through 8 at the Janet Evans Swim Complex in Fullerton. Competing against 967 of Southern California's best young swimmers from 47 swim clubs, Coach Sean Kang's boys and girls came away with many honors as well as great portends for the future. Twenty-three members of the Dragon Swim Team had times fast enough to qualify for individual or relay events during the five-day meet, including Ashley Min, Ashley Kang, Tricia Dobson, Christine Ku, Rachel Ku, Minah Kim, Yumi So, Emily Thai, Nam Hee Kim, Chungah Rhee, Leah Park, Patti Navarro, Alex Park, Chris Park, Jason Kim, Jin Kim, Willie Han, Seth Biagini, Harrison Thai, Chris Kang, Bryan Tsai, Timothy Chong and Ho Jean Yoon.
