Beware, although they do slim and flatter your legs, they also make your orthopedic surgeon smile because you may be the “constant patient.” The following is more information on the various types of shoes and how you may be able to wear these wild fashions. Other current shoe trends: mostly casual — short boots, gladiator/flat sandals.

On July 1, five family members were hiking in the Switzer Falls area in Angeles National Forest. Around 4:30 p.m. four of the members decided to walk the approximate two miles back to the parking lot. By 9 p.m., when they had not arrived, the remaining family member, a son, called 911. Montrose Search and Rescue responded to the emergency call and began searching for the missing people. "There were two adults, 40- to 45 years old, a 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old girl," Janet Henderson, captain of Montrose Search and Rescue, said.

Rattlesnakes have been spotted near Gleneagles Place in La Cañada Flintridge, another sign that a warm spring is causing more early encounters between foothills residents and wildlife than usual. Neal Peterson, a Gleneagles resident since 1975, said he encountered a baby rattlesnake Wednesday morning, and others before the most recent rainstorm. “That's pretty early for us,” said Peterson. “They usually don't start coming out until it gets hot, but we've had some warmer weather.

Ten Years Ago The Ralphs store in the 500 block of Foothill Boulevard closed to customers from Nov. 29-Dec. 16, 1998 to complete extensive renovations. Shoppers were told it would reopen as a Ralphs Fresh Fare and, according to a store director, it would be “be drop-dead gorgeous.” Twenty Years Ago The La Cañada Flintridge Planning Commission gave its blessings to two building additions at the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints campus in the 1800 block of Foothill Boulevard.
