Part 2 Many thoughts raced through my head as we sped toward the objective. The more I thought of the mission at hand the harder it was to rationalize the insanity of the moment. If you read me last week, you’ll recall the call that came late at night summoning Simone to join three little girls on a clandestine mission to TP some friends’ houses. I joined this adventure as an embedded journalist trying to understand the nature of such a mission. Children gravitate toward that which gives them an experience.

After seeing the trailers, some of you may assume that "The Wild" is a lot like "Madagascar" from DreamWorks Animation. You would assume right, but this film is better. The plot, animation, and even the jokes are better, making for a wonderful moviegoing experience. This film follows Samson (voiced by Kiefer Sutherland), a lion at the New York Zoo who is trying to teach his son Ryan (voiced by Greg Cipes) how to roar. He would tell him stories of being in the wild and deflecting herds of wildebeests with a single roar, but nothing seemed to inspire him. Once Ryan finds out that the green boxes outside the zoo go to the wild, he decides to find out what his father has been talking about.

I was stumped! For the first time I felt the pressure of having to write some "Dr. Joe Thoughts" that would satiate my need to solemnize the special character of Memorial Day. I didn't just want to tell you that it's a day to remember and reflect. I popped open my computer and stared at the screen. Nothing would come. Since it was Sunday, I couldn't seek the council of a chi latte at Penelope's Café. I was on my own. Quietly, Kaitzer walks by carrying a load of the children's laundry and says, "Can't think of what to write about"?

After a brief hiatus from the postseason, Renaissance Academy?s basketball team made its official and emphatic return to the playoffs on Sunday. The Wildcats, who failed to receive an at-large entry in 2009, just a season after having advanced to the program?s first-ever CIF-State finals game, were named the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CIF Southern Section Division 5-A playoffs. ?To not make it was really disappointing,? said Renaissance Coach Sid Cooke, whose team, as a freelance squad went 17-8.

I wanted to write some thoughts for Veterans Day but nothing would come. Thus, I stared at my computer with a look of consternation. Since it was Sunday, Penelope's was closed and I couldn't seek the council of a chai latte. I was on my own, at home. Quietly, Kaitzer walked by carrying a load of laundry and said, "Can't think of what to write about?" "Nope," I said. Over the din of the dryer, she calmly said, "Write about the sacrifices of women," and then disappeared with another batch of clothes.

Wal-Mart is test-marketing biblical action figures — Jesus, Moses, Mary, Noah, David and Samson among them. And Target will do the same on its website. There is at least some concern, however, among consumers — parents — that such figures may prompt children to equate biblical heroes and heroines with secular figures. And while some may see the action figures as a learning tool, others may see them as gag gifts. What do you think of the idea of biblical action figures?
