La Cañada 500 block of Houseman Street: A briefcase was stolen out of a locked Ford SUV parked in its owner's driveway between 11 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and 8 a.m. Monday, April 2. The front driver-side window of the SUV had been smashed. 900 block of Crown Avenue: A woman's purse was stolen out of her locked Honda SUV between 11:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and 6:15 a.m. Monday, April 2. The car's front passenger-side window had been smashed. The victim's debit card was later used to purchase $105 worth of gas at two Chevron stations in Bell.

The following crime reports for La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta were taken from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Sunday, March 25 3100 block of Encinal Ave., LCR , a 34-year-old La Crescenta man was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and for driving a vehicle without the owner's consent. Saturday, March 24 1200 block of Lanterman Lane, LCF , someone broke two windows in an apparent attempt to burglarize a home while the owner was on vacation.

She?s rarely won anything ? except once in a while a silent auction bid ? and she didn?t enter a contest, so imagine her surprise when she got a call from a Rite Aid representative to let her know she?d just won a 2009 Chevy Malibu hybrid and a $3,000 gift card to the Rite Aid store. That was the experience for La Cañada mom and former schoolteacher Julie Olson, who was a bit skeptical when she received that Monday morning phone call a few weeks ago. ?I truly didn?t believe it,?

Local law enforcement agencies and the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition are sponsoring a prescription drug take-back event from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Residents are encouraged to drop off medications that have expired or that are no longer needed at the Rite Aid stores at 2647 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta, 657 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge and 2037 Verdugo Road in Montrose. Expired or unneeded medications can be dropped off at any time at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station, 4554 Briggs Avenue, La Crescenta.

The free Christmas gift wrapping team at La Cañada Presbyterian Church will be offering their services for the 10th year this weekend. The group, which wraps gifts for the community entirely for free, stresses that no donations will be accepted. It is a free service to the community, based on a foundation of raising faith, not funds. ?It creates curiosity with people and encourages conversation about faith,? said gift wrapping event organizer Linda Pearson. A well-known story surrounding the event begins with a man who stopped to get his gifts wrapped in front of the drug store.

The following crime reports for La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Montrose and northeast Glendale were provided by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Saturday, Feb. 18 Octavia Pace, 32, of Pasadena, was arrested on suspicion of forgery and attempting to defraud Citibank at 742 Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada by attempting to cash a bad check. Friday, Feb. 17 Two men entered a Rite-Aid store at 2647 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta and stole over-the-counter medication, leaving the store without making any attempts to pay for the items.

Plaza De La Cañada, a neighborhood shopping center in La Cañada Flintridge, has sold for $35.9 million , the Los Angeles Times reports. The 1960s-era shopping center on Foothill Boulevard will be anchored by a Gelson's Market that is set to open early next year. Gelson's will replace Vons as the main anchor of the mall. Retail Opportunity Investments Corp., a San Diego real estate investment trust, bought the mall from Vons Cos., real estate brokerage Cassidy Turley said.
