Letters to the Editor Educate youth and help abuse victims Until Robin Davis Graffam [Editor’s column, “Good schools,” 3-12] personally told me her uncensored story of how disgustingly brutal her abuse was, I had never known any woman who had been the victim of domestic abuse. I watched the trial of O.J. Simpson and was appalled by the admissible evidence disclosed. When I saw the photos and stories regarding Rihanna’s abuse, the first person I thought of was Robin.

While it appears the La Cañada Educational Foundation pulled off another successful fund-raising bash for our public schools Saturday night, enough money to keep things afloat just isn’t flowing into the district, according to those in the know. So, the school board has been wrestling with the parcel tax question for months. They decided last week to hold an election on June 2 for a $150 tax over five years, but subsequently learned it could cost the already cash-strapped district an ungodly amount, more than $200,000, to stage an election at polling stations.

Summer may be ending, but Southern California's best concert series is just beginning. It's the L.A. County Fair's End of Summer Concert Series, presented by Toyota, and featuring an all-star lineup of favorite artists live under the stars. Once again, with the Fair's expanded dates, Sept. 8 to Oct. 1 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays), the concert series has 15 rockin' evenings at the nation's largest and greatest county fair. Among this year's bill are legendary rockers Heart and Creedence Clearwater Revisited, country songstress LeAnn Rimes, Def Jam recording artist Rihanna, disco diva Donna Summer and the biggest and best Monsters on the big-wheeled truck circuit.
