A fallen tree branch Sunday took out power for about 12 hours for 29 residences along La Cañada?s Chehalem Road and Milmada Drive, east of Angeles Crest Highway and north of Foothill Boulevard. Lauren Bartlett, a Southern California Edison representative, said the outage was caused by a tree branch that fell on a conductor, which caused the conductor to fail. The outage occurred at about 10:40 a.m. Power was restored to residents by about 10:30 p.m., she said. Those 12 hours without electricity made for a ?

Harold E. Lotze is a bit of a mystery. His parents were immigrants. His father, William, had been born in Germany. His mother, Irma, was born in Poland. His older sister, Louise, was born in Germany in 1916. By 1918, perhaps after Armistice Day on Nov. 11, the Lotze family emigrated to the United States. Their first stop was Arizona, where young Harold was born. He was followed by a little sister, Elsie. By 1921, the family moved to Inglewood, where his father worked as a dental technician.

Good news, bad news, we print it As I mentioned in a previous column, our Valley Sun intern, Leticia Cheng, set up a display of her work when the La Cañada High School Institutes for the 21st Century held its showcase on a Thursday afternoon late last month. I couldn't have been more proud as this high school junior welcomed visitors to her display and told them about her internship experience. She was poised as she easily engaged in conversations with people of all ages, answering their questions and offering them copies of the paper and our goofy little souvenir Valley Sun antenna balls to take with them.

My La Cañada High class reunion last weekend went just fine, thanks for asking. What fun it is to catch up with people you haven't seen in ages! And it can have sweet moments, too. A childhood friend of mine from our Paradise Canyon days, Jill Kreiling Barras, came from Arizona for the event. I had not seen Jill since high school but, since all the obituaries of La Cañadans tend to come over my office transom, I was aware she'd recently lost her mother, Jean Kreiling, a longtime real-estate agent here.
