The Zonta Club of Pasadena, in partnership with the Castle Press, is providing free resource cards to women who are abused, homeless or in crisis. The Pasadena Area Women's Resource Card provides hotline phone numbers, information on domestic violence and how to obtain a temporary restraining order. "The Women's Resource Card lists more than 20 agencies that can help women in need," said Zonta president and Castle Press owner, Susan Kinney. "It also provides important information in English and Spanish on how to apply for a restraining order."

A reader recently contacted me asking for copies of the series of articles I wrote in May 2009 regarding transportation options once one has given up driving. Here is the first of that series. The other two will follow in the coming weeks. Q. I recently gave up driving when I finally admitted that my reaction time had slowed down to a point where it was no longer safe for me to be behind the wheel. Can you give me some tips on how to make this adjustment? I feel like I am trapped at home.

A La Cañada veterinarian has diagnosed three dogs with the kidney failure that has been linked to the recent pet food recall. According to Susan Dietrich, DVM of La Cañada Pet Clinic, three dogs in various stages of kidney failure have been treated at her office. They all had been fed pet food that has been recalled by Food and Drug Administration in recent weeks. "[At the beginning of the outbreak] we were unaffected," Dietrich said. That all changed last week when three animals, all from different families, came in with signs of kidney problems.
