Journaling like Meg Cabot at library Join the La Cañada Flintridge Library from 4 to 5 p.m. Jan. 7 for fun journaling activities. Celebrate the release of the latest “Princess Diaries” book and have a chance to win an autographed copy of the new Meg Cabot book. For this special teen event, we will also have as a special guest, award winning teen book author Gloria D. Miklowitz. Miklowitz will give tips on journaling and writing. She has been writing stories since 1964 on issues regarding young adults.

This year, Crescenta Valley High School (CVHS) was one of the 84 schools that applied for the Bravo award, and now is now being honored as one of the top four finalists. The Bravo Award, founded in 1983, is given to exceptional "educators and schools for excellence in all of the arts disciplines." Each year, schools from all over apply in hopes to be honored with the sculpture for the trophy case, and the recognition for what they do so well. The $10,000 that goes to the winning school might also have a little incentive as well.

Though this film is being hailed as one of the best films of the year, I wonder -- if it was of a man and a woman would it get the same reaction? Only at the beginning and end does anything interesting happen. The story is about two cowboys who fall in love while herding sheep on Brokeback Mountain. The problem is that they both have women back home waiting for them, and they are cowboys, the last stand of true American manhood. Years pass as they carry on their affair behind their wives' backs, hiding it from the world for fear of what others might think.
