Michelle ichelle and Tim Sabourin’s garden was turned into a tropical paradise with blazing tiki torches for the recent, “Cruisin’ in Polynesia” themed La Cañada Junior Women’s Club party. Michelle and Sharon Grey were co-party planners of the event. Island casual was the dress code as guests wore exotic flower inspired clothes enhanced with colorful leis around their necks. The flavor of the islands was also evident in beverage choices such as pineapple martinis and mai tais.

Dining with Duvall By Lynn Duvall During Sunday dinner as we exclaimed over the juicy, melt-in-your mouth, prime chautaebriand, I said, "Gee, I wish we'd remembered that we're out of red wine before Bob fired up the grill." Gretchen asked, "What kind of wine should we be drinking with this meal?" An easy question for me, and one I think most of my readers could answer: Roast beef or steak pairs well with Cabernet Sauvignon. As soon as I answered, Gretchen threw me a curve ball.

For those of you who loved the film ?Superbad? and just wished there was more violence and pot, your dream has come true. ?Pineapple Express? has blood, drugs, guns, and buddy comedy that can?t be beat. Seth Rogen stars as Dale Denton, a paranoid pothead who witnesses a murder and is on the run with his drug dealer friend, Saul Silver, played by James Franco. Much like the other movies producer Judd Apatow has done, such as ?Superbad? and ?Knocked Up,? the humor is somewhat low- brow, but still very funny for any adult audience.

Fire Up The Grill Sometimes, when I am interviewing, my subject says, "You won't mention that, will you?" Or she tells me something funny and adds, "That's off the record." I nod politely, thinking to myself that I've just waved good-bye to an amusing tidbit. One day I asked myself, "If you were interviewed, Lynn, what personal topic would you want to avoid?" Boy, is this one silly. I have a thing about my feet. I don't like them. They make me nervous. As a child I was afraid to go barefoot.

Lynn Duvall Cinco de Mayo commemorates the date of May 5, 1862, when Mexican armies fought a decisive battle against the French in the city of Puebla. After the Mexican-American War, a new constitution and government brought democracy to Mexico. Large landowners, frightened of losing their land, invited Spain, England and France to help them maintain power. Mexico had borrowed heavily from those nations to finance the Mexican-American War; the creditors came to Mexico to collect their debts.

Dining with Duvall by Lynn Duvall This week, the fat envelope from Pillsbury announcing the call for entries into the 2006 Bake-Off arrived in my mail box. Between the arrival of this year's kit and the one that arrived two years ago, I read a fascinating book about America's cooking contests - "Cookoff: Recipe Fever in America" (Viking Adult 2003) by Amy Sutherland. I reviewed "Cookoff" earlier this year. The book begins with the arrival of the Pillsbury media kit containing details on the bi-annual Bake-Off where the grand prize winner takes home $1,000.
