St. George's Episcopal Church Preschool will present its "Dragon Faire 2004" on Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 4467 Commonwealth Ave., La Cañada. The Dragon Faire, the preschool's annual fund-raiser, is open to the public and will feature family activities including game booths with prizes, a carousel, train ride, petting zoo, Printefex photo booth and an art table hosted by a professional animator. An assortment of food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Country Kitchen along with baked goods.

Local families turned out in good number Saturday evening for La Cañada High School?s 10th Annual Instrumental Music Program Dinner Show and Fundraiser. Held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, the evening had an air of sophistication. A balloon arch over the entrance hailed guests, while members of the jazz band stationed near the door played lively pieces, whetting the musical appetite. Inside, the large stage was alive all evening with a procession of numbers by the school?

Wow! Most of us made it home safely, even though “Carmageddon” threatened to bring us to a standstill. At least the various media outlets gave us enough warning that we might want to experience an “at-home mini-vacation.” With the shutdown of the 405 Freeway for an entire weekend, traveling to the west side of the greater Los Angeles basin was absolutely verboten - unless one was to hire a private helicopter to get them there. Now, if somebody wanted to travel from Burbank to Long Beach (avoiding having to depart or land at LAX on that crunch weekend)
