Whenever I go to Adat Ari El Synagogue, I know that something wonderful will happen. But this time, I was perplexed. What is Community Supported Agriculture? I asked the rabbi. A few days later, the e-mail arrived. Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, refers to local farms from which individuals commit to buy seasonal produce. Whether we are concerned with our personal health, the economic strength of local farms, or the well being of our world, joining a CSA enables us to help ourselves, others and our world.

Annual golf tournament is Dec. 8 Golfers are urged to sign up to participate in the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation’s ninth annual “Classroom Classic” golf tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the spectacular Hole-In-One Shoot-Out for $1 million at 11 a.m., in which two players will be selected randomly for that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Tee-Off time is 11:30 a.m., and dinner will follow at the end of the tournament.

Retired ARCO executive Jack Simmons, a longtime resident of Flintridge, passed away on March 29 at the age of 85. He was survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marcia Murdoch, two sons, John (Linda) and Jay (Kathie), and three grandsons, Jeff (Jen), Brad and Jonathan. Originally from Walling-ford, Pa., Jack graduated from Drexel University in 1943 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the European Theater during World War II as a captain with the 26th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army from 1943 to 1946.
