Lindsay Brooke Shaller and William Rube Hayden II were united in marriage recently at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Pasadena. A dinner reception followed at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles. The bride is the daughter of the Honorable Frederick Shaller and Kimberly Shaller of San Marino; her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shaller of La Cañada Flintridge and Dianne Wilson of Pasadena. The city of Pasadena held an open house last weekend for the Hahamongna Annex, 30 acres of land that the city is adding to the watershed park that lies on the border of La Cañada Flintridge. The 30 acres was originally owned by Pasadena, but was sold to the Metropolitan Waster District in 1970 for use for a water treatment plant. After that project fell through, Pasadena leased the land back until MWD put the property up for sale. Pasadena bought the land back last year for $1.2 million.

A small earthquake that struck Thursday was centered in Pasadena or La Canada Flintridge, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake, which measured 2.1 on the Richter scale, struck at 11:48 a.m. Thursday. The epicenter was within four-tenths of a mile of the 600 block of Seco Street in Pasadena, which is just south of the Rose Bowl. The movement originated aproximately 10.6 miles below the earth's surface. There have been no reports of damage or injuries related to the minor quake.

Two suspects were arrested Wednesday in Pasadena with stolen property from residential burglaries in La Cañada Flintridge, authorities said. Crescenta Valley Sheriff's deputies served a warrant in Pasadena before arresting the unidentified individuals, according to the station. La Cañada saw a string of residential burglaries last month and authorities are searching for additional suspects. The Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station said in a statement that additional information dealing with the investigation would not be released at this time.

?Wind Under Their Wings? Brunch The Women of Eagle Scouts of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America sponsors Wind Under Their Wings Brunch honoring the mothers, daughters, sisters, and women behind the Eagle scouts. The brunch will feature speaker KABC cameraman, Bruce Weiner and scouts from the San Gabriel Valley. The event is Saturday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the Langham Huntington Hotel and Spa, Pasadena. Cost is $75 per person and includes the program, brunch, and favors.

Author Marc Belissa will speak in French on "The Marquis de Lafayette, Combattant et Propagandiste de la Révolution Française" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11. The program, celebrating the 250th anniversary of Lafayette's birth, is sponsored jointly by the Alliances Françaises of Pasadena and Los Angeles. It will be presented in the auditorium of LILA (Lycée Internationale de Los Angeles) at 30 Marion Ave., Pasadena. Dr. Belissa is a lecturer at the Nantes campus of the University of Paris and a research member of the Institute of the History of the French Revolution.

The city of Pasadena and the National Park Service will present the results of a series of planning sessions to determine the future of 30 acres of park land located between La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive. The property, known as the Hahamongna annex, was formerly owned by the Metropolitan Water District and sold to Pasadena in November of 2005. It currently houses stables for Rose Bowl Riders, a county fire camp and the Tom Sawyer camp, along with a grove of oak trees known by many as "the enchanted forest."

At a recent party in Pasadena, James MacLennan and Nicole Neumann announced their engagement to family and friends. The couple are planning an August wedding in Lake Arrowhead. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Duane Neumann of Valencia and Vicky Neumann of Pasadena. Hosting the party where the announcement was made were Nicole?s mother and her grandmother, Charlene Jimenez. Nicole is a 1997 graduate of La Cañada High School. She graduated from Cal State University, Northridge with her bachelor?

Dr. Dan Lee, chief instructor of the Dan Lee Academy of T'ai Chi Ch'uan established in Pasadena since 1969, will give a free lecture and demonstration on how to relax and manage stress through T'ai Chi Ch'uan and QiGong. These techniques provide the physical and mental means of reducing life's stressors. The demonstration will include Yang Style T'ai Chi, T'ai Chi Saber Sword, Spear and Fan. The free lecture and demonstration will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Academy located at 54 N. Oakland Avenue (corner of Oakland & Union Street)

What did Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill and Sir Isaac Newton all have in common? They were all creative, inspiring people who struggled with a serious mental illness. May is Mental Health Month, and to honor those who struggle and triumph with mental illnesses, the Della Martin Center at Huntington Hospital will host "A Fair For All," a community health event Wednesday, May 24. Visitors may enjoy delicious food, great games, and enter to win fabulous raffle prizes. Community agencies from around Pasadena will join the hospital in providing free educational materials and information for patients and family dealing with mental illness.
