I just couldn’t resist, I just had to hop a plane this weekend to go see my new granddaughter Morgan who is just 2 weeks old. She is a wee one, not even 6 pounds yet. It seems that she already has a nickname, “Tink.” I’m not sure who gave it to her, probably her very proud daddy. We also celebrated my grandson Ryan’s first birthday this weekend with a fun party. He enjoyed every crumb of his birthday cake. He squished it through his fingers and also adorned his hair, forehead, ears and nose with frosting.

Former longtime La Cañada resident Karen Horn, now of Glendale, is exhibiting 50 of her oil paintings at the La Cañada Flintridge Public Library through the end of this month. Horn, who retired in 2007 after a 21-year career at the Tam O’Shanter Inn, began painting again just two years ago after a long hiatus — the last time she’d taken up a palette and brush was when she was in high school. Today she studies under local artist Margot Lennartz. Horn is the mother of Justin, 29, and Josh, 34. Her husband, Kobey, served two terms on the La Cañada Flintridge Public Safety Commission and was a longtime member of the board of the LCF Chamber of Commerce and Community Association.

Part 2 T his week and next I'll wrap up an interview a graduate student, Ivan Iannoli, held with me recently. Iannoli is completing his master of fine arts degree in photography at UCLA and posed several questions to me. Last week I printed the first portion of the interview. Q. If I'm surrounded by the "right" colors, that is, the colors that best suit me, how might my life be different than if I were surrounded by the wrong, or inappropriate colors? The right colors are supportive, not dominant, and highlight a person's eyes, skin, hair, bone structure and energy intensity.
