PASADENA — Thirty-six games into the season and Arroyo Seco Saints Coach Aaron Milam still can't get an accurate read on his team. Milam might have gotten a better read after the Saints suffered a 6-5 loss to the Playa Vista Orioles in an elimination game of the Palomino Southern California Regional Baseball Tournament on Monday night at Jackie Robinson Field. "We are very bipolar when it comes to playing defense," said Milam, whose team committed four errors and will be the third seed from the Southern California Regional in the Palomino West Zone Tournament in Compton beginning Friday.

La Canada Junior Baseball/Softball Scores Babe Ruth Division Yankees (Woe) - 13 Orioles (Hanson) - 3 The Yankees’ Ace Taylor Brink and Closer Joseph Cadiff faced off against Orioles’ pitchers including Sam Baldwin Chris Longo in a game in which the Yankees came out on top. Kevin Dalrymple (a triple and a single). Will Peterman (a double), Brink (two singles) and Mark Saatzer, Jamie Krasner, Harry Kightlinger, John Love and Cadiff, all of whom had singles, led the team The highlight for the Orioles’ offense was Josh Hanson’s prodigious home run to the right field wall and a double by Longo.

Babe Ruth Dodgers 14, Yankees 3 The Yankees were shut down by the pitching and defense of a strong Dodger team. Nick Prince, John Hayes, Sam Whitefield, and Tanner Massimino all had hits for the Yankees. Defensively, the Yankees turned two double plays and Mitchell Page came up with another big catch in center field. Mitch Russell pitched three solid innings striking out two and assisting on four put outs. ? Angels 10, Red Sox 7 After a disasterous third inning, the Red Sox rallied but came up short losing to the Angels, 10-7.

BRONCO Mets 6, Angels 3 The Mets improved to 4-1 with a 6-3 victory over a talented Angels team. Jacob Yonan picked up his fourth win, striking out seven and giving up only three hits. Clay Smith and Sean Bird closed out the game, with Smith getting the hold and Bird notching his third save. He also had a RBI single. Smith walked three times and scored; Yonan singled in a run, walked and scored; Zach Johnson singled twice and had an RBI; Matt Lunde knocked in a run; Henry Rowe singled and scored; Brian Williams got on base twice; and Justin Hamm walked and scored.

The following are updates on area Major League Baseball players . ? Mark Loretta (St. Francis High, 1989) Los Angeles Dodgers infielder: The two-time All-Star has gotten additional playing time with the Dodgers recently concluding a six-game stretch of interleague road games. For instance, Loretta had a two-run double in the third inning of the Dodgers? 6-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Loretta, who started at first base, had two hits in six plate appearances.

St. Francis High School graduate Gregg Zaun inked a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers Dec. 4. Zaun, a Glendale native, reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.9 million. The deal includes a $2.25 million option for 2011 with a $250,000 buyout, meaning Zaun is guaranteed $2.15 million. Zaun, who caught for the Baltimore Orioles last season before being dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays in August, made $1.5 million last year. Zaun, 38, received some interest from the Colorado Rockies and also the Rays and Seattle Mariners.
