Moura takes first with tech paper Scott Moura , a third year Ph.D. candidate in mechanical engineering at University of Michigan, won first place in the Graduate Technical Paper Competition at the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Conference, last month in Phoenix. Moura is a 2002 graduate of La Cañada High School and a 2006 graduate of University of California, Berkeley. Moura’s paper, “Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle Power Management: Optimal Control and Battery Sizing,” beat out 11 other finalists to garner first place and the prize of $1000 and an iPod Touch.
