The good news is that the La Cañada 14U Softball team made it to the finals of its second straight weekend tournament, blasting through four opponents at the nine-team June Jamboree in Moorpark. Unfortunately, also for the second time in as many tries, the team came up just a bit short in the championship game. Ojai scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to edge La Cañada, 4-3. To that point, the 14Us had been unstoppable. The team rolled through pool play, powering past Valley Christian, 11-2, and edging Sylmar, 1-0. In the quarterfinals, the game was tied 6-6 when time expired, but La Cañada scored five runs in the extra inning to defeat Camarillo, 11-7.

The top three vote-getters couldn’t be three more different experiences, so there is no doubt there is something for everyone in this year’s winners. Topping the field this year was the luxurious Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, located in the small community of Ojai, not far from Santa Barbara. If bed-and-breakfast inns are your preference, the second-place winner this year is Aurora Park Cottages, a wine-country retreat in Calistoga.
