My birthday has come and gone and I don’t feel a day older than my heyday when I was in my 30s. However, the mirror quickly brings me back to reality. I spent my birthday celebration at the Las Floristas Headdress Ball at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Julie Pejsa Julie Pejsa was not only my very gracious hostess but also a mannequin. Next week I’ll tell you more about it and show you photos of the fabulous headdresses, for now I have other news to tell you. It was a truly sweet affair recently when the Junior League of Pasadena held its fund-raiser, called the “ Chocolate Chip Ball ” at Castle Green in Pasadena.

D eep dish, thin crust, Napolese — you might think you have sampled all the pizza the world has to offer. But La Cañada's newest eatery, Hello Pizza, delivers a pleasant surprise with every slice. The pizzeria, at the northeast corner of Ocean View and Foothill boulevards, is the brainchild of South Korea native Brandon Tak. Opened last month, it boasts fresh, healthy ingredients not often associated with the standard American pie. Customers can choose between original and whole wheat crusts, the latter of which lends a dynamic flavor to the pizza, Tak said.

On May 20, Jennee La Lanne and Glenn DeVore were married in Medocino at the MacCallum House Inn. In the garden of the inn, under a silk canopy made by Glenn's father, the couple exchanged vows they had written. The bride is the daughter of Jackie and Tom La Lanne of Mill Valley and the granddaughter of the late Anna Kimmel of La Cañada Flintridge and Patricia La Lanne of San Bruno. The groom is the son of Judith Fenley of Graton and Micahel DeVore of Sebastopol. Jennee wore a Risatrose gown in natural silk with a finger-tip length fine tulle veil embellished with crystals.

As if by magic, the morning clouds dissipated and the bright sun came out just in time for nearly 200 women who gathered in the beautiful patio at the Thursday Club for the venerable organization's annual fashion show benefit. The clubhouse garden was showing off its spring finery with daffodils, tulips, roses and camellias all in bloom in perfect floral choreography. Gracella Gibbs , chair of the event said, "We selected the theme of 'Celebrate' to recognize the formation of the new La Cañada Thursday Club Foundation with all proceeds from the event to go to the Foundation in support of our scholarship programs.
