Starlight Crest Drive and Godbey Drive in La Cañada, Hector Orlando Castillo, 25, of Glendale was arrested after deputies found a forged U.S. Department of Justice identification and citizenship documents in his possession at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Big Tujunga Canyon and Shelly Lane in Angeles National Forest, Jose Jimenez, 28, and Ruben Flores, 30, both from Los Angeles, were arrested after deputies found a handgun and ammunition after responding to a “shots fired” call at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

As if the Hindu God of fortune Vishnu were watching over La Cañada, the skies have finally parted and just in time for La Cañada’s Beach Bus schedule to start up. The Beach Bus, the summer-long, city-sponsored round-trip to the beach via bus, begins this week, starting this Tuesday,June 23, and continuing until Sept. 7. It will run every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a special Labor Day trip. The bus will pick up at Memorial Park at 9:15 a.m. and drops off at Santa Monica Pier, with the return trip leaving from Santa Monica Pier at 3:30 p.m. “The city of La Cañada and the county of Los Angeles has provided this for the community,” said Carl Alameda, senior management analyst with the city of La Cañada Flintridge, “and our ridership has increased every year.

Served as pastor of Montrose Community Church from 1947-1979 Rev. Charles N. Svendsen, pastor of the Montrose Community Church for 32 years, (1947-1979), died Saturday, Feb. 12, in San Gabriel. He was married to Audrey Talbot for 55 years. They had been living at the Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra. The Svendsen family made their home in La Cañada for over 50 years. Rev. Svendsen was born October 24, 1919 in Elgin, Ill. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1925. His father sold and repaired shoes on Pico Boulevard and his mother cared for their seven children.

Residents’ general plan input sought A scoping meeting to allow for public input into environmental and other issues associated with the city’s General Plan is planned for 6 p.m., June 18 in the Council Chambers room at La Cañada Flintridge City Hall, 1327 Foothill Blvd. The city’s director of community development, Robert Stanley, said he hopes many community members will show up to add their thoughts and help provide direction.   County changes parking limits Drivers in the unincorporated areas of Montrose and La Crescenta will need to keep a closer look on parking signs after a number of changes were approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

The La Cañada Flintridge City Council on Tuesday approved changes to the LCF Shuttle route that would connect riders to the Montrose Shopping Park. The LCF Shuttle currently makes its westerly turnaround by traveling north on Ocean View Boulevard, east on Cross Street and south on Castle Road before returning to Foothill Boulevard, said Carl Alameda, a senior management analyst with the city. After receiving complaints from residents, staff began working with the city of Glendale Traffic and Transportation Division to explore alternative routes, Alameda said.

Clutching towels, sunblock and boogie boards, two dozen foothill residents lined up Tuesday morning at Memorial Park in La Cañada Flintridge with one destination in mind — the beach. Now in its 20 t h year, the summer Beach Bus provides fun seekers with cheap and convenient transportation to the Santa Monica Pier. Children and adults ride for $3 roundtrip, and the disabled and people 60 and older ride for $1.50. The bus operates through the first week of September on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Labor Day. Local stops include Memorial Park, Two Strike Park in La Crescenta, the La Crescenta Library and the southeast corner of Montrose Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard.

Area 1 Raymond Avenue : Deputies observed a vehicle with only one working headlight on May 19. They stopped and searched the vehicle, discovering marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver and two passengers were detained. 3000 block of Foothill Boulevard: Somebody smashed the front glass door of a business overnight on May 19-20 between 8 p.m. and 7:50 a.m. The suspect stole $120 in currency from a cash register. The total loss was valued at $1,120. 11800 N. West Trail, Kagel Canyon: A young woman posing as a deaf person wiled her way into a private home on April 21. She told the victim she had been abandoned there by her boyfriend following an argument.

A 49-year-old man died early Wednesday from injuries he sustained after being struck and thrown 70 feet by an SUV as he crossed a street on New Year’s Day, authorities said. Montrose resident Joo Lee, suffered from numerous broken bones and brain trauma as a result of the impact, died at about 12:49 a.m. at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, police said. “It’s sad to think that a family will be starting the new year with the death of a father,” Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Dept.
