La Cañada Flintridge completed a shade structure at the park's playground late last month with the support of a local organization. Mom's Club of the Foothills donated $1,275 toward the project, which had a budget of $13,000, according to Carl Alameda, senior management analyst for the city. The playground has received other upgrades in the past year, including a new tube slide and an access gate.

The MOMS Club of the Foothills will be hosting the Second Annual Preschool Expo on 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Lutheran Church in the Foothills at 1700 Foothill Blvd. ?Looking for a preschool can be little overwhelming,? said Diana Thompson of the MOMS Club. ?There are a lot of schools in the area [and searching for the] right one can be exhausting.? Many of the moms in the club have been through that searching process or are facing it in the future. Their goal was to bring several of the preschools in the area into one room where parents can ask questions, get brochures and meet some of the staff.
