It came in the form of a bone-crushing tackle for no gain from Spartans linebacker Michael Greenberg, who also had a third-quarter interception in the game, on fourth-and-two at La Cañada's own 31. LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE - When the apex of Friday evening's La Cañada High football game involved members of the Spartans junior varsity team, needless to say, there weren't many highlights. And while those Spartans junior varsity players outscored their opponents by seven points, the varsity had no answer for visiting Eagle Rock, which was methodical in nearly all facets in defeating La Cañada, 25-7, in nonleague action. “We're not executing on varsity. Our JV came in and our JV was against their varsity defense and scored on their first drive,” Spartans first-year Coach James Sims said.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL Flintridge Prep 47, Mayfield 46 : Fouled with .1 second to go, Tala Ismail needed to make just on free throw to keep the Rebels perfect in the Prep League at home Friday. The freshman missed the first, but made the second, as Prep improved to 13-3, 6-0 in league on its home floor after it trailed by two with 1:29 left. Ismail finished tied with Lacy Coan for a team-high 14 points in the victory. “All along we wanted to be one of the top two teams in the league,” Prep Coach Kevin Kiyomura said.

Pee Wee La Cañada Gladiators 46, Arcadia Indians 0 For the second consecutive week, the Gladiators Pee Wee Division crushed its opponent by defeating the Arcadia Indians 46-0 Saturday afternoon at La Cañada High School. In two weeks the Gladiators have scored 82 points while the defense has not allowed a score.

Caltrans? tunnel plans to ?close the gap? between the 710 and 210 freeways met with a show of resistance from several area residents during a SR-710 Tunnel Technical Study Community Meeting Tuesday at Lanterman Auditorium. About 300 locals showed up to hear an update on Caltrans? plans and ask questions about the project. However, at the meeting officials were unable to answer most questions, promising those answers would come at subsequent environmental study and ?next step? community meetings.

Foundation to honor major donors The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation , a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to raising money each year for the La Cañada public schools, will be holding its annual Major Donor Reception on Thursday, Oct. 8 to thank donors who gave $1,000 or more in the 2008-09 school year. Local resident Sharon Otsuka will be recognized for her record of inspirational leadership by being presented with the prestigious “Spirit of Outstanding Service Award.
