Thank goodness the weather people were wrong last week ? it just wasn?t as hot as they thought it would be. Just as long as we stay out of triple digits this week I?ll be ecstatic. Of course you can?t see me right now, but I?m looking rather polka dot. I went to the dermatologist last week to have all those ugly moles on my face and neck removed. I will be so happy when all gets healed because I sure look funny now! If you see me out and about town, do say hello ? it is still the usual me beneath my polka dot skin.

Mention Handel's Messiah and most music lovers can't help but think instantly of the holidays, considering how the work has become such a staple of the holiday season. Yet connoisseurs of great choral music who would like to inaugurate the season by venturing beyond the standard holiday repertoire might want to consider attending The Pasadena Symphony's performance of Francis Poulenc's Gloria on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The program will open with Mozart's Symphony No. 31 "Paris," followed by the performance of Poulenc's Gloria , featuring soprano Jamie Chamberlin of whom Alan Rich of the L.A. Weekly wrote, "I would gladly revisit the vocal and comedic talents of Jamie Chamberlin anytime she comes my way."

If Kyle Hurihara were to set the city of La Cañada to music, what would it sound like? ?I?d imagine it would be somewhat majestic,? said the 16-year-old La Cañada High School junior, ?prideful but not excessively elaborate.? This is something Hurihara might never have contemplated were he not a member of the Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra, which will feature in an upcoming concert the works of four classical composers who drew inspiration from their own native lands.

Find some fascinating rhythms as Maestro Victor Vener and the California Philharmonic present "Dance Fever" to close the 10th anniversary season of "Cal Phil Festival on the Green" on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Arcadia. Presented by Sunset magazine, the Cal Phil Festival on the Green outdoor concert series has drawn thousands of music lovers each year to the Arboretum for its lively music and laid-back style. Avid music lovers and their families convene each summer in the Arboretum's garden atmosphere for an array of music performed by one of the region's most acclaimed ensembles.
