Everything has been heating up around here. We have been basking in early summer-like splendor with temps in the 80s while the East Coast is getting slammed with snow. The social and benefit season is revving up too. But before I get too far down the current benefit path, I also want to catch up on a great Las Candelas holiday party. Bobbi and Sal Gangi generously opened up their lovely hilltop home for a pre- Christmas gathering of members, spouses and guests.

The Las Candelas installation meeting and luncheon was held recently at the home of Doris Boyer. The installation was conducted by Debbie Hinckley, a past president of Las Candelas. Among those being installed were President Cathy Keen and First Vice-President Karen Whyte, benefit chairman for 2007. This year's Life Membership award was presented to Carole De Paul, a longtime member who has held every office in Las Candelas and continues to give volunteer service to the organization.

Whew! I'm exhausted from the unrelenting heat. This has been quite the late-summer siege. I know that some of you thrive in this kind of weather but for me, it is torture. Here in my very old house, the slightly younger but still antiquated air conditioner tries really hard, but it just can't make it cool enough for me to get any relief. I have found myself eagerly jumping into the car to run errands just to cool off. I'm really counting on the accuracy of our weather people, who tell us that for a few days the temps will drop into the lower 90s or high 80s, which is certainly a whole lot better than the 100-plus we have been suffering through.
