A "Wine Toasting" is the theme of tonight's La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce mixer, which will be held from 5:30 to 8 o'clock at Allen Lund Company, 4529 Angeles Crest Highway. Toasts will be made in honor of the Lund building's new courtyard area, created during recent extensive landscaping of the property. Food and refreshments are courtesy of the Lund Company and wine for the event is being provided by Lee Ann's Place. Parking will be available at the rear of the property.

Lund to head university’s board The University of Portland Board of Regents has elected D. Allen Lund as it new chair. Lund, whose term began June 1, is the president and CEO of the Allen Lund Company, a La Cañada-based transportation and logistics provider established in 1976, today earning $310 million in revenue annually. Lund has been honored for his work in the transportation industry and in Catholic education. He currently serves as chairman of the board of directors at St. Francis High School, serves on the finance council for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and serves as trustee for the Catholic Education Foundation of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

A familiar face will be replaced at St. Francis High School this year. However, though the transition is expected to be difficult, the man who takes his place as president of the school isn?t a stranger and is expected to add a new dimension to the school?s leadership. Father Matthew Elshoff ? also known as Father Matt ? longtime president, and former teacher, campus ministry leader and director of admissions, as well as former student and graduate, at St. Francis High School has been elected as Provincial by his peers in the Capuchin Franciscan Order?

Allen Lund Company founder and CEO Allen Lund and wife Kathleen will received the 2009 National Catholic Educational Association St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award on Oct. 5 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C. The Lunds will be honored for their financial and voluntary commitment to Catholic education. Allen Lund serves as chairman of the board of regents at the University of Portland, chairman of the board at St. Francis High School in La Cañada Flintridge, and he is a board member for the Catholic Education Foundation of Los Angeles.

As the founder and chief executive of the Allen Lund Company, a national third-party transportation broker, Allen Lund commands attention when he speaks. And he did just that at the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Friday, providing members of the local business community with a crash course on the trucking industry. The Allen Lund Company, founded in 1976, has been headquartered in La Cañada for 32 years. It has grown to include 30 offices and 300 employees across the country, Lund said.

Proving that the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association is truly a community effort, Allen Lund Company has come to the rescue of the float's decorating staff for a second time by providing them with a refrigerated truck (reefer) to keep fragile flowers looking their best. "Having properly cared for flowers can make a huge difference in the finished appearance of the float," said Bob Neilson, past president and site manager for the Association. "Allen Lund Company's generosity is greatly appreciated as it will insure that our flowers are in top shape to apply to the float."

The Allen Lund Company, a national third party transportation broker headquartered in La Cañada Flintridge, announced the promotion of Steve Doerfler to chief financial officer and the addition of Cynthia Lupica as in-house corporate counsel at the company's annual board meeting in March. Doerfler replaces Joe Hillman, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Doerfler earned a bachelor's degree in finance and management from the University of Portland, Ore. and his M.B.A.

On May 20, Homeboy Industries will honor USC head football coach Pete Carroll, Gary Yamauchi, owner of Tri-Star Vending, and Allen Lund Company employee Philip Amador at its fourth annual Lo Maximo awards dinner. The event will be held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Amador will receive the 2006 Homeboy Hero award for his commitment to making a change by redirecting his life at home, work and community. Allen Lund, Allen Lund Company president and former Homeboy Industries board of director, hired Amador in 2003.

Phillip Amador’s resume reads like a man on his way up. A successful tenure at the Allen Lund Company in La Cañada Flintridge has been punctuated by stints with the accounting, sales and customer service departments. The 36-year-old has been promoted four times, and maintains a strong rapport with colleagues. But seven years ago Amador had never had a job interview, much less worked in an office. And his credentials — gang member, drug trafficker, convicted felon — made him an unlikely candidate for a position at the national trucking brokerage firm.

La Cañada Chamber members and guests enjoyed an evening al fresco on the patio of The Allen Lund Company, which hosted this month's mixer. As a sweltering day waned into a much cooler twilight, there was wine tasting provided by Lee Ann's place, crepes made to order, fresh cheese, deli spreads and a refreshment bar. About 125 guests showed up to meet with new La Cañada business owners and to catch up with old friends and local events. LCF Chamber chairman Joe Thompson was the emcee, giving an easy-going atmosphere to the event and drawing the prizes.

The Allen Lund Company, a national third party transportation broker, announced the promotion of Mike Terry to project manager. "We are very excited that Mike accepted the position. As we continue to grow as a company nationally and internationally, Terry's expertise will benefit the company and its future," said David Lund, vice president of sales and operations. As project manager, Terry will oversee all major RFP and RFQ requests, business application development and deployment, supply strategic data analysis and evaluation.
