Ten Years Ago A forum attended by representatives from the city, law enforcement, schools and churches studied the topic “Can Littleton Happen in La Cañada?” The event, sponsored by the Ecumenical Ministerial Assn. of La Cañada Flintridge and held at St. Bede Church, was held as a proactive measure in the wake of the April 20, 1999, massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo. Twenty Years Ago A new corporate headquarters building for Dilbeck Realtors was under design, with construction expected to begin in the latter part of 1989.

The severely damaged Foothill wall just west of the local YMCA may now finally be repaired, City Manager Mark Alexander told the La Cañada Flintridge City Council Tuesday. Alexander said the Federal Highway Works Administration has signed off on the project, and the bids for the work are due back Oct. 11. The wall, located between Littleton Place and Lone Pine Lane, partly collapsed due to storm damage in winter of 2005. Estimated cost of the work is $550,000, and the city applied for federal funds through FEMA.

The First Baptist Church of La Crescenta has announced that it has regretfully accepted the resignation of its senior pastor Rick Derbyshire. Pastor Derbyshire has accepted a call to a Baptist church in Littleton, Colo. In addition, his wife, Sue Derbyshire, has submitted her resignation as executive director of Avenues Pregnancy Center in Glendale so she can accompany her husband to his new position in Colorado. Pastor Derbyshire submitted his resignation at the church's board meeting last month.

Littleton Place in La Cañada Flintridge, a mailbox that was considered a piece of art, signed by the artist, valued at $800 was vandalized in the 4500 block overnight April 12-13. Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, as a La Crescenta man was pulling into a gas station a 47-year-old Montrose man who was walking on the sidewalk nearby, began punching the driver’s vehicle. The suspect continued to attack the vehicle as the driver pulled near one of the pumping stations.

GLENDALE ? Morre Dean has been named president and CEO of Glendale Adventist Medical Center (GAMC), according to Robert G. Carmen, executive vice president/COO of Adventist Health and board chair of the Southern California facility. Dean will assume his new role after the first of the year, when the current president, Scott Reiner, transitions to his new position as senior vice president of Adventist Health. "I believe that Morre's leadership will be a benefit to GAMC and its community," stated Carmen.

Flu vaccines at Community Center The Universal Wellness-Immunization Network will be at The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, to give flu shots to adults. Drunk driver hits sheriff’s patrol unit A drunk driver was the cause of a collision between the driver and a Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station patrol unit at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Congratulations to all the jump ropers who participated in the 2014 Rose Parade, and kudos to the Palpitating Panthers for organizing the jump-roping group that performed in the parade. It was a great privilege to have jump ropers as one of the three inaugural entertainment groups in the parade. It should be clarified that in addition to the six jumpers from Palpitating Panthers, there were 29 other amazing jumpers from teams across the USA. There was one Bainbridge Island Rope Skipper from Bainbridge Island, Wash.; one Coronado Speed Spinners from San Diego; one Falcon Flyer from the Lake Cities in North Texas; three members of Foothill Force from La Cañada; one member of HFS Jump Force from Euless, Texas; five Indy Air Bears from Indianapolis; two Jumping Eagles from Littleton, Colo.; two Jumpin' Jammers from Bedford, Texas; five Juneau Jumpers from Juneau, Alaska; one member of the One Jump Ahead group from Boulder, Colo.; three Summerwind Skippers from Boise, Idaho; one member of the Tri-Force from Cary, N.C.; two Tucson Twists from Tucson and one West Texas Criss Crosser from El Paso, Texas.

La Cañada Flintridge April 12 Residential burglary: 2100 block of Lyans Drive, between 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. A Rolex watch, laptop, gold wedding ring and other items were stolen from a home. April 12 Auto burglary: 1929 Verdugo Blvd., between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Car bench seats were stolen from a locked vehicle. The driver's-door lock was punched out and the rear lift-gate glass was damaged. March 8 Theft by access card: 4536 Hampton Road, 4:18 p.m. A person stole the Foothill Municipal Water District's credit card information to make a purchase at walmart.com totaling in $320.60.

Official groundbreaking for the La Cañada Properties Town Center along Foothill Boulevard at Angeles Crest Highway will probably be held in late January or early February, developer Darrin Mattix told the City Council Tuesday. The council took the final step in actions on the center by approving a development agreement covering nearly $2 million in infrastructure improvements to be made by the city or the developer. Mattix said with the agreement in hand he can complete financing by the end of the year and begin site clearance.
