ACTIVITIES Y-Tribes Guides & Princesses New Member Night — Monday, Sept. 28, 7 to 8 p.m. The Y-Tribes program at the Crescenta-Cañada and Verdugo Hills Family YMCAs provide quality time for busy dads and their children while participating in enjoyable and constructive activities. Dads and their kindergarten through fourth-grade sons or daughters will enjoy Snow Camp, skate night, Friday Night Flick with In & Out, the Pinewood Derby and more. Participants are required to attend New Member Night at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA where tribes will be assigned.

Students in the La Cañada Unified School District who wanted to express themselves and receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts had an opportunity to show off their talents through the Annual Arts Reflections Program. The 2006-2007 Reflections theme was "My Favorite Place." Students were asked to think about what it meant to them and then put those thoughts and creativity into an original piece of artwork in one of six categories: musical composition, literature, photography, visual arts, dance choreography and film/video production.

Scholarships were presented to the top winners of this year's La Cañada High School 9-12 PTA Reflections Fine Arts Contest during a meeting Jan 17. St. Francis High School?s team captured first place in the Southern California Private School Academic Decathlon , and is one of 60 schools that will advance to the state competition in Sacramento March 13-16. The awards ceremony was held Feb. 15 at Bishop Alemany High School. The competition occurred the prior weekend. The Academic Decathlon is a nationally organized scholastic competition with each team comprised of an equal number of A, B and C students. Students take examinations in language and literature, music, science, art, mathematics, economics, essay writing, speech, interview writing and super quiz.

More than 20,000 volumes will be available for purchase Saturday, Oct. 2, at the annual book sale sponsored by the Friends of the La Cañada Flintridge Library. Headed by Colleen Shier, a team that includes Mary Moreno, Ann Bagne, Emma Wilson and Jim Wilson has spent every Monday morning through the year sorting books and magazines for the library's ongoing lobby sale and stockpiling the donations for the annual book sale. Over the past five years, the team has been responsible for thousands of dollars in revenue, which the Friends use to add to the book collection or fund other library needs.

The Paradise Canyon Elementary PTA has proudly announced the winners of its recent Reflections Art Contest. Student entries were submitted for this year's theme "My Favorite Place" in the categories of music, literature, photography and visual arts. The entries were judged at the school and district levels. Jeremy Herron (kindergarten to second grade level), Matthew Pasion (third to fifth grade level) and Kirsten George (sixth grade level) were awarded first place at PCY for their literature entries.

A Noise Within Holds Annual Tea to Benefit Arts Education and Outreach on Sunday, Dec. 18.A Noise Within will be holding its annual Victorian Tea event Dec. 18 at the historic Masonic Temple in Glendale. The Victorian Tea is a family affair that will include food, music, and a drawing with prizes including trips to Minneapolis, Cambria and San Diego, a day of luxury in Pasadena, dining and arts packages, and much more. Attendees of the Victorian Tea will be treated to sumptuous high tea fare in the very same space that houses the company's critically lauded productions.
