Norma Barnell Norma Lee Tye Barnell, 87, of Altadena died July 1, 2009 in her home. She was born Oct. 30, 1921 to George and Wilma Tye in Promise City, Iowa. Norma played basketball in high school, helping her team to the finals of the Iowa State championship. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, bowler, traveler and video poker player extraordinaire. She was very proud of her ability to play “Flight of the Bumblebee” on the clarinet. Upon leaving Iowa, she moved to California where she met John Barnell.

The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce held its 2007 Installation and Community Awards Dinner last Thursday at the La Cañada Country Club. Organizations and individuals were recognized. The 2007 Chamber President Bea Blessley was installed. Blessley has worked in the foothill area since 1994 at her business, Jenkins Properties Management. The Business of the Year award was presented to Glendale Area Schools Federal Credit Union. The oldest Credit Union in the city of Glendale is now celebrating over 70 years of continuous service in the community.

A beautiful spring morning with weather made to order was not the only thing celebrated by the National Charity League Inc., Glendale Chapter at its final fundraiser of the year, the 5K Walk-n-Talk, which took place on Saturday, March 31 in Brand Park. Well over 200 Patronesses, Ticktockers, Sustainers, Associates, YWCA of Glendale Board members and friends participated in the event, which began with an energizing 5K walk through Kenneth Village and surrounding neighborhoods, and concluded with a picnic feast catered by Corner Bakery, enjoyed under the shady trees.
