Cyclists in brightly colored jerseys will be racing through La Cañada at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, provided snow doesn?t fall on their mountainous route. The Amgen Tour of California is an eight-day, 650 mile race that brings top professional cycling teams from around the world together. The tour was established in 2005; this will be the first time it will pass through La Cañada and end at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. ?The last two years we ended in Long Beach,? said Meghan Abbott, spokeswoman for the tour.

Avicious rumor started last week near Devil's Gate Dam, traveled along the edge of the golf course and found its way to Linda Vista, heading toward La Cañada. This rumor, verified by the same crack investigators that found evidence of WMDs in the Brookside Country Club Golf Shop, confirms there are alien bike riders in and around LCF. Evidence of alien activity has been found by carefully examining some local signs. "Oh yeah," said NSA agent Grady Lyar, "We've seen this in other areas of the country.

Ten Years Ago: The St. Francis High School football team beat visiting Bishop Montgomery to claim the La Cañada school's 300th gridiron victory since opening its doors in 1946. Twenty Years Ago Paul Baribault of La Cañada Flintridge was named to the Junior National luge team. Thirty Years Ago A sheriff's drug investigation, requested by the La Cañada Unified School District, culminated when deputies raided the La Cañada High School campus to arrest 22 students.

Carol McIntyre Wilson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at her home on Hobbs Drive in La Cañada. Complications of Alzheimer's disease caused her death. She was 87. According to her daughter Maggie, Alzheimer's did not change her personality, and she remained gracious, sweet and happy throughout her illness. She was born on Dec. 20, 1917, in Safford, Ariz. One of five sisters and two brothers, she was orphaned at the age of 9 by the early deaths of her parents.

  Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta — A 40-year-old La Crescenta woman was arrested after she allegedly left Ralphs Market without attempting to pay for items and employee found in her purse in the 2600 block at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.   Crown Avenue in La Cañada — A global positioning system was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2600 block, reported at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.   Oakwood Avenue in La Cañada — A wallet and compact disks were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 5000 block overnight, Aug. 7-8.   Oak Grove Drive in La Cañada — Someone attempted to unlock a refrigerator that is located next to the snack bar and La Cañada High School, damaging the appliance; 4400 block at 10 p.m. on Aug. 5.   Alta Canyada Road and Linda Vista Drive in La Cañada — A gardener reported that as he was working in the backyard of a residence his co-worker ran to him and said he witnessed someone stealing several pieces of gardening equipment from his truck that was parked on the street.

Ten Years Ago Longtime St. Francis High School coach Jack Friedman, who turned the Golden Knights into a major high school football powerhouse in the 1960s and ’70s, died at a Glendale hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 71 years old. Twenty Years Ago A field goal kicked by Ross Allan during the final five seconds of the game gave the La Cañada High School Spartans an exciting 13-10 football win over cross-town rivals Crescenta Valley High. Thirty Years Ago The city of La Cañada Flintridge applied for a $575,000 federal grant to purchase the 65-acres Cherry Canyon in the Flintridge area and retain it in its natural state.
