The bicycles were buzzing, the spokes were flicking, the fans on the corner of Green Lane and Angeles Crest Highway hung out behind the barricades, some for up to two hours for this one moment, waiting to clatter their cowbells and cheer for the cyclists whom they’d interact with for only a few seconds. It went like that, a lot of waiting, watching California Highway Patrol and other cars go by and premature cheering for cyclists who weren’t in the race (mostly fans who wanted to chase the course)

Just in time for the clouds to part, the swarm of cyclists from the Amgen Tour of California are making their way through the Golden State and plan on stopping by La Cañada through Angeles Crest this weekend. On Saturday, the Tour of California, America’s premier cycling event, will be in its seventh stage, crossing from Santa Clarita to Pasadena and will stop through La Cañada on its way, coursing through Angeles Crest and Commonwealth Avenue. This may sound familiar to some locals as the Tour went through La Cañada last year.

Sunday was cloudy and rainy but that didn?t stop La Cañada residents from cheering on the Amgen Tour of California as it sped through town. ?We had a fair share of people that came out,? said Sgt. Mark Slater of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff?s Station. Around 2 p.m. a party atmosphere began to build as residents and visitors from nearby communities joined together, many with umbrellas in hand, to see the cyclists race around corners and past homes during Stage 7, the final day of the eight-day event.
