The workplace serving of a lawsuit against state Sen. Carol Liu’s district director was nothing more than a “bigoted publicity stunt,” the Council of American-Islamic Relations said Monday. Tahra Goraya, a former national director for the council, was served with the suit in her Glendale office last week. The federal lawsuit, filed in the District of Columbia, claims the Council of American-Islamic Relations allowed a manager to claim he was an attorney and provide bogus legal advice to the organization’s clients, costing at least one of them their job. Morris Days allegedly took money from those clients, but did not file any claims on their behalf.

I read with disappointment that parents of two kids are suing LCHS for alleged wrongs done to their children. We also learn that one of these cases is for actions taken over three years ago! Unfortunately it seems all too easy for attorney David Diamond to make these allegations in our local paper rather than just making his case in court. What a shame that our administration has to spend their time and energy in depositions and meeting with attorneys rather than helping our kids learn.

You could say this started in August, when Arasky Avakian, asked her Flintridge neighbor, Jacqueline Chen, to trim her oak tree as it continued to encroach upon her property. You could also say this started nine years ago, when the two became neighbors and that same oak tree presented itself as a problem in the first place. But whenever it started, it escalated to new heights when Avakian hired workers to trim the tree off of her property and perhaps broke a few rules in doing so. The tree was noticeably slimmer on the south side, where it encroached Avakian?

A hearing is scheduled to be held Sept. 24 for a lawsuit brought by 27 scientists and one engineer from Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Goddard Space Flight Center against NASA/JPL who object to a new background check requirement, saying it is an invasion of privacy. “These scientists [and the engineer] work in non-sensitive, unclassified areas,” said attorney Dan Stormer, a partner at Hadsell and Stormer who represents the plaintiffs. A Bush administration directive requires new background checks for all government employees.

A Flintridge property owner has filed a more than $2.1 million lawsuit against the city of La Cañada Flintridge alleging the City Council is denying the man access to his property through a public road. This after the March 17 council meeting when the council in a split 2-to-2 vote decided against allowing Philip Merritt to develop the ?paper road? Windermere Place as a driveway to access his property. The council at that meeting suggested Merritt modify his plans to access the property from Hampstead Road, which connects with the other side of his property, or return to the city?
